Your Privacy Matters

At Helder, we believe your journal is deeply personal. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your reflections remain yours alone.

What We Collect

• Email address (for authentication)
• Journal entries (encrypted at rest)
• Session metadata: your intention, how long you wrote, which questions appeared and which you took, and the rhythm state read while you wrote (none, if you switched sensing off)
• Usage data (anonymized analytics)

Your typing rhythm itself (pace, pauses, rewriting) is read in your browser while you write, to know when a question might help. It is never sent to us. You can switch sensing off at the top of the writing page; then nothing is read, no questions appear, and no rhythm state is saved with the entry.

AI Processing & Data Protection

The prompts that appear while you write come from a fixed library, written in advance. They are chosen by your typing rhythm alone; your journal content is never read to choose them. If you are a Plus subscriber and ask to see a pattern, Helder sends short excerpts of your recent entries to Anthropic's Claude to generate that observation.

How We Protect Your Data

• PII Stripping: Before sending data to Claude, we automatically remove personal identifiers like email addresses and phone numbers
• No AI Training: Your journal content is never used to train AI models
• Secure Processing: All data is transmitted over encrypted connections
• Limited Retention: Anthropic does not retain your data beyond processing the request
• Quality Evaluation: The text sent for AI processing, together with the AI's responses, is also logged to Braintrust so we can measure and improve how Helder responds — with identifiers like email addresses and phone numbers removed, and never tied to your account

How We Use Your Data

• To provide adaptive prompts that respond to your writing state
• To recognize patterns across sessions (Plus tier)
• To improve our service
• To process payments (via Stripe)

What We Never Do

• Sell your personal data
• Share your journal entries with third parties, beyond the AI processing and quality evaluation described above
• Use your data for advertising
• Train AI models on your private entries
• Read your journal entries (only AI processing)

Third-Party Services

We use trusted services to provide Helder:

• Clerk — Authentication (secure sign-in)
• Stripe — Payment processing
• Vercel — Hosting infrastructure
• Supabase — Database (session storage)
• Anthropic (Claude): Pattern insights for Plus subscribers, by request
• Braintrust — AI quality evaluation (identifier-scrubbed text, never tied to your account)

Data Retention

• Journal entries: Retained while your account is active
• Session metadata: Retained for 1 year
• Payment records: Retained as required by law

Data Security

Your journal entries are encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption. We use secure HTTPS connections for all data transmission.

To request a copy of your data, or to have it deleted, email us at privacy@immanence.inc and we'll take care of it. You can reach us at the same address for any other privacy concerns.
